How can I facilitate my staff's understanding of the new ELA standards?
How can I implement the new ELA standards into my high school classroom?
The Common Core ELA Learning Standards for High School
The Common Core Learning Standards define the knowledge and skills students should have within their K-12 education careers so that they will graduate high school able to succeed in entry-level, credit-bearing academic college courses and/or in workforce training programs." Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, all New York State Testing will be based on the new standards. The standards are not curricula but rather, they outline what students must be able to do as a result of the development and delivery of cohesive and coherent units of study, by the end of each instructional year.
The CCLS:
•are aligned with college and work expectations
•are clear, understandable and consistent;
•include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills;
•build upon strengths and lessons of current state standards;
•are evidence-based,
•and are informed by other top performing countries, so as to prepare all students to succeed in our global economy and society.
The CCLS set high expectations for all students, place heavy emphasis on critical thinking and real world applications and help to develop uniformity and rigor across and within American schools.
This full day workshop will enable participants to lead the introduction of the Common Core Learning Standards in English Language Arts at their own schools and to facilitate their staff's understanding through questioning and discussion.
Please note that lunch will not be served.
There is no charge for this course as it is covered under Title IIA funding. However, if you register and fail to attend, your school will be ineligible to attend future Title IIA courses.
