The Common Core State Standards are fewer, clearer, and higher than the previous State Standards, and include rigorous content and application of knowledge through higher order skills. Starting in the 2012-2013 school year, all New York State's testing will be based on the new standards.

With an emphasis on mastery of complex concepts in higher math through hands-on learning, there is an aligned need to re-examine how to best assess what students know and can do.  The development of rich and rigorous performance tasks aligned to Common Core Learning Standards pose an effective way to assess the Mathematical Practices as well as the Math Content standards.

Topics to be covered:

  • Review of math practices
  • Review of standards for each grade level
  • Look at current text with beginning of the year unit of work and align to CCLS
  • Develop performance tasks to use with this unit as formative/summative assessment and rubric
  • Planning next steps for school/class implementation of CCLS

Please bring:
Copy of your current curriculum/textbook/math program for your grade level or the first unit you cover for the year

Please note that lunch will not be served.

There is no charge for this course as it is covered under Title IIA funding.  However, if you register and fail to attend, your school will be ineligible to attend future Title IIA courses.
