Section 1 - Teachers of Grades K-8 who have NOT had Writing Fundamentals Training

Topics that will be addressed:

 

* Creating a Writing Workshop Classroom: Management, Environment, and Tools

* Units of Study: Shape our Writing Curriculum and Align to Common Core Standards

* How Writers Work: Launching Your Writing Workshop

* The Writing Process: A Framework for All Units

* Books Lead the Way: Choosing Mentor Texts

* Immersion: Reading Like Writers to study Author's Craft and Process

* Architecture and Demonstrations of Interactive Read-Alouds and Mini-Lessons

* The Writing Conference: Differentiate Instruction - research/decide/teach

* Assessment: Utilizing the Self-Assessment and Rubrics in Writing Fundamentals

* Teachers as Writers: Teachers take part in a writing workshop.

 

Section 2 - Teachers of Grades K-3 who HAVE had Writing Fundamentals Training

(e.g., You have worked with a Schoolwide trainer in your school and/or attended last year's Writing Fundamentals Summer Institute)

Topics that will be addressed:

 

* Fundamentals of Grammar and Conventions: NEW units of study that align to Common Core Standards and build students' knowledge of language and conventions using authentic literature

* The Importance of the Interactive Read-Aloud: How to enhance students' engagement, understanding, and appreciation of various literary genres

* The Mini-Lesson: A close look at how we model and engage students during this explicit whole-class teaching time and still keep it "Mini"

* Conferences that Stick: A close look at when and how we confer, keep records, and utilize this one-on-one or small-group instruction

* Assessment: Summative and Formative assessments that drive instruction

* Qualities of Good Writing and Common Core Alignment

 

Section 3 - Teachers of Grades 4-8 who HAVE had Writing Fundamentals Training

(e.g., You have worked with a Schoolwide trainer in your school and/or attended last year's Writing Fundamentals Summer Institute)

Topics that will be addressed:

 

* Fundamentals of Grammar and Conventions: NEW units of study that align to Common Core Standards and build students' knowledge of language and conventions using authentic literature

Please note that lunch will not be served. 

There is no charge for this course as it is covered under Title IIA funding.  However, if you register and fail to attend, your school will be ineligible to attend future Title IIA courses.
