Changing the Landscape of Jewish Teen Education

The question still exists: How do we increase our post Bnei Mitzvah youth’s commitment to Jewish education and community engagement in a meaningful way? The need for innovation in youth/teen programming continues in our community.  We can’t continue to use the same methods and expect different results - it is time for a paradigm shift.  The Jewish Education Project is continuing to tackle that challenge.

This Fall, we launched Operation: Game Changer, a new initiative from our New Center for Collaborative Leadership. Operation: Game Changer is a new program designed to support institutional teams in discovering new perspectives and methods for engaging teens.  The goal of the program is to have participating institutions discover, design, and implement significant new and impactful approaches to our teens’ Jewish education and engagement.

At the kickoff event, our talented coaches, Clare Goldwater, Simon Klarfeld, and Mike Mellen, led interactive sessions for youth workers on Community Building, Experiential Jewish Learning, and Coaching.  Our own staff also led sessions on the current Teen Landscape and Creativity, leaving the group with a clear picture of  here we are and where we want to go over the coming months.  The excitement in the room was palpable and we are looking forward to seeing how this initiative can move the needle in Jewish teen education.
