Social Media in our Synagogues
The Jewish Education Project continues to give educators the tools and resources they need to expand the reach and increase the impact of their Jewish education.
The Jewish Education Project hosted Allison Fine, the author of The Networked Nonprofit and synagogue president, for a session with our congregational and youth educators on using social networks to create change in the world. We thought that Allison’s combined expertise made for an extremely relevant and helpful session, and the educators agreed! Rena Fraade, the Educational Director at Larchmont Temple said that “Allison Fine brought the conversation of Technological Networking to the next level – beyond just “should we do it?” but “HOW do we do it?” How do we connect to our constituencies in the most meaningful and successful way…and how do we keep it sacred in the process.” Jen Vegh, Religious School and Youth Activities Director at Beth El Synagogue Center in New Rochelle, commented that she “was thrilled that this workshop went beyond how to use social media to support the mission of my institution to think globally about how social media affects the way we understand our institutions and the demographics we are trying to reach. Allison gave me the language to speak about change in an achievable, exciting, dynamic way…. I have already begun the conversation with other leaders at our synagogue to think about [these ideas].” Through this and other programs, we continue to help synagogue educators connect with their communities in deeper and more meaningful ways.
