As part of our Gateways to Engagement (G2E) program, Westchester Jewish Center (WJC) chose to focus on increasing Parent Education as their family engagement model. Last Passover, under the guidance of their G2E consultant, WJC launched a new initiative called Conversation and Celebration Guides, which was followed up with a 2nd edition for Chanukah. The educators and lay leaders at WJC created a booklet with stories, activities and information about Chanukah which was sent home with all of the children in their early childhood program. The booklet also included a text study for adults, and the parents were invited to a program at the synagogue with clergy. The Conversation and Celebration Guide links children to parents, and parents back to the synagogue, strengthening the entire family's connection to Jewish life.
